Labor day weekend in Yellowstone and Island Park.  It got smokier as the week end went along by Labor Day the sky was pretty much gray nondescript and photos taken at any kind of distance suffered from the effects of smoke.  The difference in picture quality from photos taken on Thursday and then on Tuesday was pretty dramatic.  All of these photos were taken on Thursday.  The only picture I’ve posted from Tuesday is the brink of the Yellowstone Upper Falls and that we taken only a few feet away so smoke wasn’t to bad.

It’s become a tradition to have  Thanksgiving with my wife’s family at their ranch.  It’s a lot of fun and great food.  Basically everything Thanksgiving is supposed to be.  Conditions haven’t been great for grabbing photos but I did catch this one which I really liked.  This one taken looking north late in the afternoon across a pond that’s on the ranch.  I did a little bit of post processing, but not much.  This was shot at ISO 200 1/200 second at f9.0. I used my 18-135mm lens set at 35mm.

Thankful for the beauty that surrounds me every day.

Before I post pictures of Island Park vacation pics I thought I’d share one from our week in Newport Coast.  I’m not sure why I didn’t take a lot of pics in CA, but this sunset panorama taken from the balcony of the room we stayed in says a lot.  This is three pictures edited and stitch together in Lightroom.  The more I learn about Lightroom the happier I’m am with it.  Enjoy!

Every other year it’s my families turn to open the cabin for the season.  This year was our turn.  I would venture to guess that the snow hadn’t been gone long because the grass and flowers were just getting started.  We go up again next week to re-roof.  That should be fun.  Point is there’s always a price to pay to have the luxury of having a place to hang out that has the beauty of this place.

I have some shots that I really like.  I’m not sure where to start so I’ll start with the a standard sunset.  The sun was setting and this shot was taken looking south – not west toward the sun.  Light does interesting things.

Our first night in Hawaii started with this great sunset.  This picture was taken from the lanai of our suite at the Marriott Resort in Ko Olina.  The sun on the water was what first drew my attention to the scene.  Of course the sun filtering through the clouds is pretty amazing as well.  We had a great time and frankly I was a bit overwhelmed by everything.  Different than anything I’ve every experienced.  I look forward to a chance to return.

Sunday nights sunset was amazing but then again every night was pretty amazing.

Hope you all had a great Thanksgiving for everyone living in the US.  We spent the extended weekend with family in a remote area.  That’s right no cell phone service unless you held your mouth just right and then it was iffy.  I took my camera along and took a few pictures and I’ll share a few here.  I was trying to get some more milky way shots, but once again the moon was to bright and I didn’t want to stay up until it set so I could get the moonless sky so hope you like these anyway.  There was a good sunset one night and clouds all that night so no stars.  Then Friday we did a little four wheeling in the snow.

I had a friend that found out about my “safaris” ask me if I wanted to go to Antelope Island and shoot Mule Deer (with my Canon).  I took him up on his offer and here’s some of what I shot.  Because I recently changed cameras I no longer have a “long lens” (something 300 mm or more).  I must fix that soon.  The animals were all shot at 135 mm which worked alright, but to get in real close a person really needs a long lens.  I got as close as the deer would allow.  Of course I couldn’t resist taking a couple of sunset pictures.  Day is Done is a five shot Panorama looking west into the sun (already set) across the Great Salt Lake.  By the way for those of you that don’t know, Antelope Island is out in the Salt Lake.  It’s a State Park and is a great place for biking, hiking, horseback riding, wild life watching, boating, swimming and etc.  My friend spends a lot of time watching the deer on the island and even has names for some of them.  Going to hang out with them was easy because my friend know where they would be.

Take a close look at these pictures.  For instants in the We Are Family shot check out the does on the left.

One of our families favorite places to watch the sunset is the old railroad trestle that crosses the river just south of the cabin.  About five years ago I did my very first HDR panorama from there.  Here are a couple of more shots taken about the same place.  One is a single shot and the other is five pictures merged into a single panorama.  I have to say the weather was really nice for taking sunset pictures at the cabin this year.

I don’t know what it is about the cabin, but it seems like every sunset is awesome or at least better than sunsets almost everywhere else.  I went up to the cabin over the Memorial Day week end with a couple of my brothers to open the cabin.  Here are a couple of samples for your enjoyment.  These were all done handheld ISO 400.

There was so many choices when it came to things to photograph around Hanover, NH.  I like things that are related to architecture and/or history.  When I can across information about the Cornish-Windsor Bridge I decided that was one thing I didn’t want to miss.  Here a link the the history.

There are a couple of picture with no bridge in it.  Well, I was standing beside the bridge and was taken by the beauty of the area so I had to try and capture it.  The weather added to the feeling of the scene.  Bare in mind that these picture where taken on the 20th of March!
