It’s been way too long.  I had a chance to be on the Salt Lake Temple Square this evening.  Had a couple of minutes and my camera so I snapped a few photos.  It wasn’t the best conditions for photos – just an ugly gray sky and lots of wind, but that’s alright this is fun.  My niece did a piano concert in the Assembly Hall.  She’s amazing.  Anyway the shots I’m sharing here are the two pianos used in the concert, looking through the window into the Tabernacle while someone practices the organ and the only healthy looking blossom on a bush I walked past.

I attended the annual awards ceremony at SUU (Southern Utah University) last week end.  At various times during the evening there was a musician performing.  He did looping music and did the whole song and all the parts in loops as he performed.  Any way here’s a picture I took with my Galaxy S III and I did find the numbers – so here they are ISO 125, 1/15 second at f2.6.  I need a faster lens for my SLR!  I kind of wish I’d had my SLR with me, but I’m pretty happy with how my phone camera performed.   The performer is Preston Pugmire check him out.

My niece just graduated from SUU in piano performance.  We went down to Cedar City to participate in the festivities which included a recital where a Steinway got a real work out.  This is the combination of two pictures.  One of the piano the other of the performer.  Conditions weren’t very good for taking picture.  There wasn’t’ much light, things (especially fingers) were moving very quickly and I didn’t want to make a bunch of noise with my camera while she was performing.  I’m glad I got what I did – they closed up the pianos immediately after the performance.  I though I’d have a chance to take some posed pics.

Just for fun here’s a shot at ISO 200, for 6 seconds at f8.  This was hand held again, yes it’s true I am a rock, I am an island – OK not really.  This is kind of a fun overcooked HDR (not done in Photomatics but all done in Photoshop)

Here’s the little place we went to out in the sticks, but still someplace in NO.  The journey was kind of fun as well.  We rode a street car out there.  The oldest and longest continuously running railroad in North America.  It just occurred to me that I didn’t get a picture of that – dang!  I do have pictures I took from the train of the buildings along the route – that made for some interesting photos.  Hand held ISO 1600, 0.3 sec at f8, again I used Photoshop to get rid of most of the noise.

I spent last week in New Orleans and took a chance to go check out same jazz.  It’s was a great show, kind of different from standard NO jazz that you might expect.  These guys where really fun.  This is hand held no flash.  ISO is 800, exposure is .5 sec at f8.  I used Photoshop to help remove the noise from the photo.
